Inspiration: Wreaths

Christmas always brings out my crafty, evil, devious... I mean crafty, creative, artistic side. So that, coupled with my love of internet has moved me to create an inspiration post, things that I think are awesome and get my mind working. This will probably be one of many, as I have a million links in my "favorites" folder and a zillion blogs and sites I follow and explore with varying degrees of regularity.
So today's post is wreaths, I'm sorry, I didn't think to keep track of where they're from, a ton of beautiful, talented and creative people on the interwebs, for sure, but other than that I've forgotten.

A new flash game to keep you busy

http://www.flashbynight.com/drench/

the above game is a simple, addictive flash game. The goal is to drench the game board in one solid colour. You click the circles of colour to the right hand side of the game board to match the colour in the top left hand corner with it's neighbours. This will create a growing block of colour that (hopefully) will take over the board. Play with it and you'll see what I mean. good luck!

I came across this game on http://www.neatorama.com/

halloween

I was a bat for halloween. here's the evidence.

awesomeness from beyond the grave!

You know who's awesome? Me. HA! You know who was even more awesome than me? Vincent Van Gogh. He was rad-tacular. I think so, Don McLean thinks so, and I'm sure you do too. So I suggest you check out his letters at :
a quote from the letter that accompanies the above sketch:
To Theo from Arles
September 1888 "..croquis of a square no. 30 canvas showing the house and its surroundings under a sulphur sun, under a pure cobalt sky. That’s a really difficult subject! But I want to conquer it for that very reason. Because it’s tremendous, these yellow houses in the sunlight and then the incomparable freshness of the blue. All the ground’s yellow, too. I’ll send you another, better drawing of it than this croquis from memory; the house to the left is pink, with green shutters; the one that’s shaded by a tree, that’s the restaurant where I go to eat supper every day. My friend the postman lives at the bottom of the street on the left, between the two railway bridges."
I just want to give him a big hug!
the picture and the quote come from: http://bibliodyssey.blogspot.com/
an awesome site dedicated to illustrations where I found the previous link.

keep on keeping on...

So, I never get around to blogging anymore. I like to save up a pile of pics to post, and have a theme, but I'm going to post snippits of things from the web in between to keep the ball rolling.

So to start, here's a cool site :
http://unfortunatecookie.footnote.com/index.php
you break open your virtual fortune cookie, read your foutune and click on the link to the scanned historical document that inspired it. A fun way to brows old newspapers.

and:
http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/
the name says it all. I'll sift through one of these days and post some awkward highlights, but I strongly suggest you check it out yourself. The picture above is, of course, from this site.

squid makes everything better

I've got a real soft spot for wierdo sea creatures. I've also got a soft spot for internet culture. So it's only natural that I LOVE squids. Plus, they're super tasty. mmmm, get in mah belleh squids!
the link below is for a translator that takes a normal message and translates it into giant squid.
as an example I've translated "dancing queen" by ABBA
first the actual lyrics:
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life See that girl, watch that scene, digging the Dancing Queen
Friday night and the lights are low Looking out for the place to go Where they play the right music, getting in the swing You come in to look for a king Anybody could be that guy Night is young and the music's high With a bit of rock music, everything is fine You're in the mood for a dance And when you get the chance...
You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life See that girl, watch that scene, digging the Dancing Queen
ok, and there's the squidified version:
You can pulsate, you can jive, having the time of your life See that female squidling, watch that scene, digging the Pulsating Queen
Friday night and the lights are low Looking out for the place to go Where they play the right music, getting in the swing You come in to look for a king Any squid could be that squid Night is young and the music's high With a bit of rock music, everything is fine You're in the mood for a pulsate And when you get the chance... Many-limbed creatures have more fun.
You are the Pulsating Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen Pulsating Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine You can pulsate, you can jive, having the time of your life See that female squidling, watch that scene, digging the Pulsating Queen
