I love things that are hand made. I like the fact that you know where the item comes from, who made it, and how. I like that there's meaning and memories associated with it, and that someone has put love and effort into producing something special with you in mind. That's why I always plan to make the presents I give people. It rarely pans out: I'm too flaky and leave everything too late, but I always have a pile of projects on the go and a list as long as my arm of things to make or try.
